About this Edition
The Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2023, which took place from 6 to 9 March, celebrated its 60th anniversary with a series of special activities and initiatives. Marking 100 years since the birth of Italo Calvino, the fair hosted the 'Italian Excellence' exhibition, showcasing the nation's rich literary heritage. The fair also ran concurrently with the 16th edition of the Bologna Licensing Trade Fair/Kids and the 3rd edition of BolognaBookPlus at Bologna Fiera.
During the event, the fair revealed global trends in illustration and focused on content and strategies in children’s publishing. A diverse professional audience, including established publishers, emerging talents, authors, translators, literary agents, illustrators, digital media professionals, and educators, attended the event. The Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2023 introduced changes such as the expansion of the BCBF Agents Centre to include adult general trade publishing. This move broadened the community of publisher rights professionals.
Throughout the show, the BolognaRagazzi Award featured a new digital area and a special category for 2023 - Photography. In addition, a prize for Digital Libraries was awarded at BolognaRagazzi CrossMedia, highlighting the fair's commitment to embracing digital innovation in children's literature.
