In 2026, the European Respiratory Society (ERS) will hold its annual congress in Spain. The event will take place from 5 to 9 September at Fira Barcelona - Gran Via. More than 22,000 delegates, including respiratory experts, oncologists, physicians, and other healthcare specialists interested in the congress topics, will meet to establish new connections and expand their knowledge. Medical students and representatives of patient organisations will also be eligible to attend.

In line with its main theme United for better breathing – partnership between patients, clinicians and researchers, ERS Congress 2026 will offer strategies, practical advice, and real-life examples for successful patient-professional collaborations. Developed in partnership with the European Lung Foundation (ELF), the programme will focus on three priority areas:

• Listening first: identifying and acting on unmet needs
• Discovering together: advancing science through collaborative research

ERS Congress 2026 will feature poster sessions, mini symposia, clinical cases, presentations, skills workshops, and postgraduate courses. Leading experts will discuss topics related to the diagnosis and treatment of asthma, sleep apnoea, pneumonia, pulmonary fibrosis, autoimmune lung disease, lung cancer, and other conditions. Participants will gain insight into new screening programmes, next-generation drugs, technologies, and techniques for improved outcomes.
